Abitato già in età preromana, sulle pendici dei Monti S. Bernardo e Briante, conserva la sua struttura di fortezza medievale valorizzata da periodiche manifestazioni ispirate alle vicende storiche del Barbarossa. Caratteristico il porticciolo, presso la vecchia filanda (sviluppata era la coltura del gelso e quindi l'artigianato tessile). La parrocchiale di SS. Nazaro e Celso contiene una pala di Andrea de' Passeri (1508) e affreschi di Gian Paolo Recchi. La piccola chiesa di S. Anna o S. Vittore vanta un campanile romanico e begli stucchi seicenteschi. In posizione singolare su uno sperone tra i cipressi la chiesa dell'Immacolata; nei pressi si apre un tunnel facente parte della linea difensiva della Prima Guerra Mondiale mentre in località S.Vittore, tra i torrenti Corrente e Torascia s'innalzano i resti di una torre recinta del VII sec. Tracce dell'antica civiltà contadina si trovano nel piccolo museo etnografico allestito da un privato. At the foot of Mounts St. Bernardo and Briante, Brienno was inhabited even before the Romans carne and retains its shape of medieval fortress, put in light by events inspired to Emperor Redbeard's history. The port near the late silk-mill (mulberry growing was developed and consequently textile craftsmanship) is peculiar. The parish church of St. Nazare and Celsus contains an altar-piece by Andrea de' Passeri (1508) and frescoes by Gian Paolo Recchi. The small church of St. Anne or St. Victor boasts a Romanesque bell--tower and beautiful XVII cent. stuccoes. The church of the Imma-culate stands upon a slope among cypresses; not far there is the mouth of a tunnel, which was part and parcel of the defence line dating from the 1st World War, and in St. Vittore site between the Corrente and Torascia streams you can see the remains of a VII cent. tower. A small ethnographic museum, ruled by a private citizen, collects old country-life tools.
